Basically, there are two types of scholarships offered by the Vamos Scholarship program.
VAMOS Traditional Scholarship
VAMOS Traditional is a renewable scholarship for up to 4 years of undergraduate study.
Students who pass the scholarship committee review may receive up to $20,000 to cover their tuition fees.
Criteria
- United States Resident; The applicant must be a United States citizen from one of the 50 United States.
- Pell Eligible; students need to be Pell Eligible to receive the VAMOS Traditional award, learn more about Pell eligibility here.
- Graduates from a high school in Hidalgo, Cameron, or Star County
- 600 words essay
Upon meeting the criteria you can proceed to the application process and apply for the VAMOS Traditional Scholarship.
However, it’s also worth noting that there are some criteria you need to meet to be eligible for renewal.
The requirements to be eligible for renewal include retaining for 4 years of undergraduate study or until graduation, and maintaining a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

HSF/VAMOS Scholarship
This is another scholarship program offered by the VAMPS, the name of the program is HSF/VAMOS.
HSF/VAMOS scholarship program is available for both students who are attending the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valle and other universities.
However, the reward will strictly vary, the students who are attending the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valle will be rewarded with $3,000 per year, for four years ($12,000 total).
Applicants who are attending other universities will receive $5,000 per year, for four years ($20,000 total).
The HSF/VAMOS scholarship program is not enrolling new students currently, the program will continue on February 8, 2024, by 5 PM.
